"I Don't Leave Anything to Chance."
So said the advert for a popular brand of tyre. A good quality tyre means a safe journey. Good advice! But what about the journey of life and its end? Surely we can’t leave that to chance either. Spare a minute to consider this all important journey from time to eternity.
ITS BEGINNING
We come in crying! And little wonder, for we all get off to a bad start. Whether born with the proverbial “Silver Spoon” in our mouth or in poverty and privation, we all have one thing in common - we are born sinners. We inherit from Adam, the first man, the same sinful nature with serious consequences, namely death. The Bible says, “As by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned” Romans 5:12.
ITS DIRECTION
Like the bowl on the bowling green we all have a bias toward sin - lying, pride, envy, hate, lust etc. The seed of every sin lies within every heart. We are going in the wrong direction; heading to ultimate and eternal ruin, away from God.
ITS PURPOSE
Why am I on this Journey? Simply, to get to know God. He is our Creator and desires our reconciliation; to have a real, personal, meaningful and eternal relationship with Himself. “This is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent” John 17:3. God has not abandoned us, but desires our salvation and eternal happiness. He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, into the world to be the Saviour of the world (1 John 4:14). His death was an act of amazing love because He bore sin’s penalty and punishment on the Cross for us. He died for our sins and rose again.
ITS END
Don’t leave your eternal destiny to chance. Don’t be fatalistic! You can act to save yourself. You must change direction - repent and have a change of mind toward God for your sins. Admit you are wrong and turn to God. Receive Jesus Christ as your Saviour and Lord, for you don’t arrive in Heaven by chance but by choice.
Choose Christ! and you will be as sure of heaven as though you were already there.
